When you start fermenting, they say all you need is salt and time. True—but here are additional items to make fermentation a little easier.
Essential
- Chef’s knife
- Chopping board
- Fermentation jars such as Mason jars or clip-top types
- Mixing bowls
- Masking tape and permanent marker to label your ferments
- Kitchen towel
Nice to have
- Plastic or wooden spoon
- Vegetable peeler (optional)
- Kitchen scale (especially if you plan to make ferments regularly)
- Non-reactive/plastic strainer
Optional
- One set of measuring spoons
- One set of measuring cups
- Wide-mouthed non-reactive/plastic funnel
- Bottle brush
