With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, romance is in the air! While wine often steals the spotlight for romantic dinners, there’s something undeniably satisfying about pairing a great dish with a cold, well-crafted beer. Whether you’re planning a cozy night in with your special someone, hosting a laid-back gathering with friends, or celebrating on your own (because why not?), these dishes go well with beer.
1. Ginisang Burong Mustasa at Tokwa (recipe)

A crowd favorite, this plant-based pulutan features Burong Mustasa. The fermented greens bring a punch of sourness, balanced by the crisp, golden tofu and a savory umami-rich sauce. Also great on hot rice, you have the option to not cook and just toss it all together to keep the beneficial living organisms in it, like the lactic acid bacteria, alive.
2. Pritong Lumpiang Gulay (recipe)

Lumpia, including lumpiang gulay and lumpiang togue are street food staples in the Philippines. By adding a ferment in the vegetable filling like Burong Mustasa, we bump up the flavor and add a bit more depth to this widely consumed Filipino favorite that makes it go well with beer.
3. Spicy Veg Okoy (recipe)

Making okoy is one of our favorite ways of using up old vegetables. This recipe uses the goodness and umami of leeks kimchi. It’s easy, hearty, and is planet-friendly. What’s not to love?
4. Kimchi Lumpia (recipe)

If you love bold flavors and crispy, golden perfection, these Kimchi Lumpia (Fried Kimchi Spring Rolls) are a must-try. Combining the tangy heat of fermented kimchi with the satisfying crunch of lumpia, this dish is a delicious fusion of Korean and Filipino staples.
5. Vegan Papaitan (recipe)

A plant-based twist on a classic Ilocano dish, this Vegan Papaitan (Vegan Bitter Soup) brings all the rich, comforting flavors of the traditional version—without the offal. Made with hearty vegetables, tofu, and a bold blend of spices, this dish delivers the signature bitterness and depth of flavor that makes papaitan so unique.
